About Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches you to control and submit opponents using leverage and technique, not size or strength. Your First Class
What to Expect.
Arrive & Warm Up
You'll be welcomed by your instructor and introduced to the mat. Every class starts with a structured warm-up — movement drills and light cardio to get your body ready and your mind focused.
Learn a Technique
Your instructor breaks down a specific BJJ technique — a guard pass, a sweep, an escape. You'll drill it with a partner until it feels natural. No prior knowledge required; every technique is taught from the ground up.
Roll (Live Practice)
You'll apply what you learned in a safe, supervised live drill or rolling session. Beginners always roll with experienced partners who guide rather than dominate. This is where the real learning happens.

Common Questions.
Do I need any prior experience?
None at all. BJJ is designed to be learned from scratch, and every Rockstar instructor is trained to teach complete beginners. Your first class is free — come in and see for yourself.
Is BJJ safe for adults my age?
BJJ is one of the most age-friendly martial arts because it relies on leverage and technique, not strength or speed. We have students in their 40s, 50s, and beyond training safely every week.
How long until I get my first stripe or belt?
That depends entirely on your consistency and growth — not a fixed timeline. Most students earn their first stripe within a few months of regular training. At Rockstar, belts are earned, not given.
What should I wear to my first class?
Wear comfortable athletic clothing — shorts and a t-shirt are fine. Once you decide to continue, we'll help you get set up with a proper gi (uniform).
Can I compete?
Competition is always optional. We have a dedicated competition team at each location for students who want to test themselves — but plenty of members train purely for fitness and personal growth and never compete.
